My solo adventure begins ….
A gentle 4hour drive south to The Carnarvon Arms, Highclere, stopping for a cup of tea from my flask at the unimpressive Keele services on the M6 and the very busy services on the M6 toll road. Toll road was expensive but a joy to drive along.

I booked the room, dinner and breakfast deal at The Carnarvon Arms, a lively pub next to the A34 south of Newbury, about an hour north of Southampton. With a couple of stops at the services and the roadworks on the M42 the journey was just under 4 hours.
Dinner was very good. Whilst it was a little pricey, the cooking was superb.

Lovely comfortable room 118.
