Summer Cruise Adventure: Cycling in Oslo

After a day sailing around the coast of Norway, I arrived in Oslo.

An early breakfast before disembarking to find Viking Cycling Adventures and my bike and guide for the morning.

The tour lasted about three hours riding around the empty streets in glorious sunshine.

First stop the ministry of defence park, where the resistance were interrogated during WW2.

Then the town hall, built in the early 1900s.

Town Hall

Oslo is a relatively flat city and the only climb was up to the royal palace.

The next stop on the agenda was without doubt my favourite, The sculpture park, Vigeland Park, home to Gustav Vigeland’s life works. A beautiful, tranquil setting. The 2000 sculptures represent the circle of life. The logic behind them not being clothed is so they seem timeless.

Then back along the fjord to the bike depot.

Despite the heat I wandered into the old town to the Munch gallery.

Fortunately the gallery was air conditioned. The first floor gallery covered Munch’s work around illness and hospitals. The second floor gallery exhibition housed his more well known work, including 3 versions of The Scream, each of which is exhibited in a half hourly rotation.

Back on board mid afternoon for a dip in the pool. Early evening sailed away from Oslo. Next stop Denmark.
