An early start for the drive to Vesuvius national park. On arrival met our geological expert Stefano.

He explained our route around the volcano and the geology of the volcano.

Next we started the ascent.

Then we walked around the crater

From the top, stunning views of the bay of Naples.

Less than 5km, but quite a challenging walk due to the paths being made of volcanic ash, so like walking uphill on a beach.

After lunch we travelled down to Pompei, for a guided tour.

Our guide was excellent and extremely informative.

Back at the hotel late afternoon and time for a dip in the pool before dinner

Soon time for dinner. Tonight was pizza night!
